CIVIC started in the early 80’s by Danie van der Nest. Coming from Telkom copper line background, Danie saw the potential in the years to come.

Danie van der Nest started CIVIC DATA SERVICES and became a mainstream supplier to some of the biggest corporate companies in South Africa. Supplying all networking solutions for these massive infrastructures. As the years moved on, technology has changed and Civic wanted to keep up with the new trend as they were coming along.

In 1996 Danie van der Nest and his partners decided to take on a new challenge and with a blink of on eye Civic Automation Services(CAS) was born. Taking on the small and the big, CAS set forward in creating a comfortable and luxurious environment for all their clients. These ranging from Sandton Convection Center, Coca Cola dome to even small residential houses. Automating their lights, audio visual and security features.

In 2010 Eugene van der Nest, Danie’s oldest son, joined the company. Coming out of school, he came in with his own mindset and ideas. Starting as a programmer and installer, within CAS he expanded the range of services CAS can provide as the years moved on. Danie gave the reins over to Eugene as Managing Director in 2017. In this time Eugene’s brother also joined the company in 2015. Clinton being very "tech savvy" and understand what technology is about. Clinton is more hands on, growing up in a world where technology and cellphones was the new way of doing things.

In 2019 Clinton and Eugene were both appointed as directors and share holders of Civic Automation Services.

Eugene saw a gap in the market in 2017 with electricity need within SA, and like his dad, with a blink of an eye, CIVIC SMART SYSTEMS(CSS) started providing power to the nation. Being up to speed with the latest technology and having the huge technology background, they can provide a tailor made modular system to each of there clients, serving the whole of SA. CSS is currently generating over 15 Megawatt at this stage and adding about 100kw to this number every week.

To expand the reach of solar energy solutions in the region, CIVIC established a branch in Gaborone, Botswana, dedicated to serving commercial and industrial clients.

David Keyser, a long time friend and employee of Clinton & Eugene got the opportunity to join the company in 2024 as director and share holder. Bringing his own technical expertise and client relationship skills to the company.

Clinton, Eugene and David have never backed down from a challenge and will strive their upmost best with their support staff to provide a great and functional system for all their clients.

In 2024, Michelle Gebrial, a respected Botswana national and accomplished businesswomen, joined as a director and shareholder. As a result, a Botswana branch was launched, focusing on solar energy solutions to address rising energy cost, ongoing power supply challenges , and the drive toward a sustainable green energy industry.
